KYU GRADE SYSTEM
The Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai U.S.A. follows the traditional system of Kyu Grade ranking, utilizing a 10 Kyu system. While the "Belt" system is simple, recognizing only White, Green, Brown and Black, it is required for all students to pass all 10 Kyu levels before they can achieve Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt).
The Kyu System utilized by Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai U.S.A. requires the student to effectively demonstrate the requirements before they may be promoted to the next Kyu level. Upon successful demonstration, the student is awarded Kyus which are represented by stripes on his/her obi (belt).

BLACK BELT RANKING SYSTEM
Nippon Ju Jitsu adheres to the traditional Dan Ranking system. Proficient Black Belt students who have earned the rank of Shodan and have been Certified as such by the Kai become eligible to earn their Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) six months after they receive Shodan rankng.
Nippon Ju Jitsu requires Dan testing for all Black Belt ranks up to and including Yondan. After Yondan, the member is awarded rank as long as he/she is proficient in all requirements according to time in grade. For example: To reach Godan, one must be proficient in all requirements and be active in teaching - They must have held the rank of Yondan for a minimum of four years and are also required to not only "test," demonstrating all previous requirements, but also present a written syllabus detailing the Nippon Ju Jitsu system and some aspect of teaching the art.
Unlike modern systems, Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai U.S.A. does not recognize "stripes" on Black Belts. All Black Belts are embroidered bearing the name, Dan rank and Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai in Kanji. Black Belts claiming to be Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai who present "Degree" stripes on their obi are not Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai. Those Black Belts claiming rank in Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai U.S.A. who do not posses valid Certification, bearing the marks and seals of the Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai U.S.A. are not valid Black Belts of the system. As well as those who claim Dan ranking and are not listed in the Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai U.S.A. Yudansha records are not valid.
Any Dan Certification not authenticated and issued by the Senior Yudansha of Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai U.S.A. is not valid and will not be accepted as Nippon Ju Jitsu Kai Yudansha.
